Day 2

View the Atlantic Ocean and the Clare coastline from the sheer Cliffs of Moher on Ireland’s rugged west coast – almost 8km (5 miles) of cliffs, rising in places to over 215m (700 feet); Visit the amazing karstic limestone district known as The Burren (‘stony place’), the largest such area in western Europe – welcome botanists, archeologists and ecologists!

Day 3

Come to Craggaunowen, ‘the Living Past’ and see the ‘Brendan Boat’, a replica of the boat believed to have been used by St Brendan, reputed to have discovered America centuries before Columbus! Also here is 16th century Craggaunowen Castle; Spend the afternoon at Bunratty Castle and Folk Park – the 15th century castle is surrounded by reconstructed dwellings from times past.

Day 4

Explore your natural surroundings with an energetic walk along the East Clare Way – maybe not the whole 112 miles of it! Or spend the day boating on Lough Derg... Browse local bookshops/craftshops....

Day 5

Indulge your literary spirit at Thoor Ballylee, home of William Butler Yeats, one of Ireland’s greatest literary attractions; Visit Coole Park, home of Lady Gregory, dramatist and cofounder of the Abbey Theatre; Also visit the nearby Kiltartan Gregory Museum and Millennium Park.

Day 6

Experience King John’s Castle, a fortified 13th century castle in the heart of medieval Limerick; Visit The Hunt Museum, exhibiting one of Ireland’s greatest private collections of art and antiquities, including works by Renoir, Picasso and Yeats; See the Treaty Stone, where the Treaty of Limerick was signed in 1691 by both the Irish and English armies.

Day 7

Visit The Burren Perfumery and Floral Centre, the oldest working perfumery in Ireland, situated in and inspired by one of the most unique floral landscapes in the world; Explore the underground passageways of the Aillwee Caves, to see animal remains, waterfalls and numerous cave formations in the limestone rock.

Day 8

Depart Shannon Airport for the US!
